South of Burnside Ave
I lived at 1970 Walton Avenue thru the fifth
grade during which time I went to P.S.28.
Flat Iron Building where many doctors had their offices.
I remember being picked up from school during hurricane
Donna in 1960 and losing my umbrella at this intersection
as the wind lifted me about 2 feet off the pavement.
Across the street from P.S.33. There used to
be a great German butcher store just a couple
of doors north of Fordham Supply hardware store.
According to : Harry Snowden
The pedestrian near the fire hydrant is in front of
255 E. Kingsbridge Rd. The original site of
Poe's cottage was at 249 E. Kingsbridge Rd.
Although facing north, Kingsbridge Rd. is an east/west road.
249 is three buildings north of 255
Historical point of interest from Pruitt: "the picture
of Kingsbridge Road at 192nd Street ... You've got a picture
of the EXACT location of Poe Cottage's original site!
In 1895, they widened KB road, and the cottage
would've been right in the middle of the sidewalk. They
wanted to tear it down, but some civic-minded citizens
pulled the house back on its lot, and in 1913, the house
was moved into Poe Park where it is now".
On Walton Ave located south of Fordham Rd.
This is the front of the Church which we seldom
used because we lived on Morris Ave and always
used the rear entrance. We were confirmed here
and my niece was even baptized here.(Pastor Wuebbens).
Currently EBB JHS 115, formerly Bronx Community
College (during my time) and even before that it
was The Bronx High School of Science.
This apartment building was directly across the
street from where I lived from 1962-1969.
I took this picture for Paulette who used to
live on this street (no more Bel De Bue).
